Happy Birthday To You!

Lower : 2004
Upper : 2006

Dear Alex,

You were supposed to be here March 12th. Dr. Barille said "He's pretty big, you might want to consider having him C-Section earlier than the due date. I will be working on the weekend of February 28th and 29th, do you want to schedule it then?" Of course, your father, always the joker jumped immediately on the 29th, whereas your mother and the doctor jumped in with a "NO!!!" right away. So February 28th it was, 9:00AM. Dr. Barille got tied up that morning and we had to wait. Finally at around 1:45PM they wheeled Mommy in. I came in at about 2:05PM and at 2:13PM we met you for the first time! (Mommy was familiar with your kicking feet already). You coming into our lives was the most joyus occasion ever. Every day we are thankful that we got such a wonderful, sweet boy. It is two years later now and we love you even more, if that is possible. Happy Birthday son, I love you.

DA!

Where have all the good times gone?

I was listening to the Underground Garage on Sirius today and heard one of my old favorite songs, "Suzy Is A Headbanger" by The Ramones and I can't help but be pissed off that 2 of the 4 of them died of cancer in their 50's. Dee Dee of course, overdosed. Then I think about Ben Orr from The Cars. Dimebag Darrell (not my genre, but, still an independent voice) from Pantera. The great John Lennon, Warren Zevon, Harry Chapin and countless others. All dead from cancer, natural causes or assasination. We are robbed of these people yet Britney, Ashlee and all the rest of the braindead, musically void artists of today live on with no problems. How is this fair? Yeah, OK, Left Eye bit it a few years back, but 50 Left Eyes could not make up one Joey Ramone. Maybe I'll stop by Jimi's grave on the way home and ask him WTF?

I mentioned a few posts back that I was going to shed a few pounds...I am down about 11 now and going to play some racquetball tonight. For as shitty as it is to give up the fun food, moderate your intake and exercise, damn if it they are not right and you do feel better. I really want to get back out onto the hockey rink again. I miss the bruises! I don't know if I can play without Scott guarding my net.

The boy will be two on Tuesday. His Omi is coming into town tonight to be at his party on Saturday. He LOVES his Omi more than anyone else. He will be going nuts when he sees her.

He fights the urge to run and kiss the chef...

For those of you not yet parents, let me warn you about something that you will not be prepared for. No matter how much pressure you handle daily, no matter what you have been through in your life. You will not believe how hard this affects you...watching your child suffer and not being able to do anything except to try and comfort him. Alex caught a stomach bug (Which Gabi and I got two days later) and it was a nasty one. It was his first experience with non stop vomiting and dry heaves and let me tell you I would have done anything to take the pain he was feeling away from him. Luckily the doctor we saw gave us some medicine that had him feeling better by the evening, but it took two doses and 7 hours to get a smile back on his face. It is truly a horrible experience.

My mother-in-law will be here Thursday, so Gabi and I will be chopped liver once she walks in the door. We may actually get to go out to a movie, or even, gasp, enjoy a meal!

Not much more to report...will report back soon.

Dad's blasting disco on the radio!!!

A little musical interlude today.

First and foremost the immensley talented Jon Auer will be releasing his first solo full length this March. Some download are available at www.myspace.com/jonauermusic please give a listen and purchase the new CD next month. Jon's EP's are also outstanding and worth searching for. The name of the solo CD will be "Songs From The Year Of Our Demise".

Did anyone catch "Hey Julie" from FOW being played on "Scrubs" last night? Nice choice. I am sure Zack Braff has a say in the musical selections on that show and he is very dead on. If you haven't seen "Garden State" do so immediately.

I love being surprised in movies or TV when one of my favorites pops up in the background. One time when I was watching that piece of garbage movie "Sliver" I noticed "Russian Hill" from J-Fish in the background.

Howard Stern used to use a London band called Moke as his bumper music. Get their CD "Carnival" you won't be disappointed.

Enjoy and dream all day!

I'm Shiftless And I'm Lazy...

Well, not actually, it's just the new job's a hassle and the kids have the flu...Jeez, I have to stop that. What I meant to say was that being home, commuting and night time parenting takes up a ton of time. Days on the road were sometimes long, but, I knew that by 7:00PM I could order dinner and catch up with my blog or get to emails. By the way I apologize if this is a bit of a borefest, but it is meant for Alex to read when he gets older.

Let's see what is going on...

Almost got killed this morning. 167 and 405 were moving along fine, but one guy was holding up the ramp because (I assume) he wanted to move directly to the carpool lane. So we all lined up in back of him and waited. Then, this dude in a Lexus is speeding up behind me and I knew it wasn't going to be good, so I turned my wheels to the side of the road and braced for the hit. (You turn you wheels so that you get pushed to the side of the road and not into the car in front of you.) Well, he saw us, last second, slammed on the brakes and screeched to a stop next to me about 5 inches from my car...

Something fun to try...If you saw "Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy" you remember they asked the computer for the meaning of life and the computer said "42" with no explanation. Well I have it for you.

1. Turn the palms of your hands toward you.
2. Fold your thumbs into your palm. You should have 4 fingers up on each hand.
3. On your left hand leave the finger up that would correspond with binary number 4
4. On your right hand leave the finger up that corresponds with binary number 2
5. You now know the meaning of life.

Pretty funny eh? For those binary challenged (8421) (8421)

Not much other big scoop happening. I won't have to settle my dad's estate for a few months yet. The new job is just great here at Precor...

OH CRAP!!! I forgot to mention. Ole fat ass is losing some weight (or at least attempting to do so) When I was going to the gym regularly and playing hockey 2 to 3 times a week, I got down to a healthy 200lbs (maybe even 199). When I played hockey alone I maintained at around 215lbs.
Now that I am a listless slug, I topped the scales at 240. I have begun a routine of diet an excercise that I hope will find me at 210 by the summer. I want to pick up a night of racquetball somewhere also. Any takers? Gabi wants me at 190, but I would settle for 210 at this point.

Scott Stevens is having his number retired tonight...a few other things that should happen tonight as well. Ray-Ray Bourque needs to show up at the game and give Scotty his 1993-1994 Norris Trophy. Ray-Ray should admit that the Norris goes to the leagues best defenseman and the mark of any good defender is his +/- which basically takes the number of times you are on the ice for a goal for and the number of times you were on for a goal against. The plus minus is that difference. The higher the number, the better. Let me present to you 1993-1994

The Winner : Ray Bourque, Played 72 Games, Scored 20 Goals, Had 71 Assists for 91 total points. His +/- ???? a very pedestrian +26. Meaning that he scored alot of goals and gave up a ton as well.

Scott Stevens : Played 83 Games, Scored 18 Goals, Had 60 Assists for a total of 78 points. His +/-??? +53. Meaning that Scott Stevens not only scored for his team, but he, kept the puck out of his own net.

Scotty got jobbed and Bourque needs to step up.

Also while were at it...Jiggy needs to drop that ridiculous Conn Smythe award off at the CAA to have it given to either John Madden, Martin Brodeur or Jamie Langenbrunner or better yet, drop that pup off in D.C. at Jeff Friesens locker.

Anyway...to Scott Stevens, the best leader in the NHL from the 90's and the first part of this decade. Thank you for everything and enjoy your retirement. You deserve it.

I will be going now...I want to keep these updates coming...I will make a better effort.
